3 Three and Under!

Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” John 4:13-14 (NLT)

Having three small children 3 years of age and under is a mountain moving task. Is it rewarding? Yes! Are there joyful moments that are laced with God's grace, and transparent cracks exuding glimpses of Heaven? Absolutely! But, some days are just plain difficult.

In the rough patches of whining, crying, temper tantrums, picky eating habits, and potty training accidents, I feel my blood start to boil and my heart rate elevate to match its fight or flight state of adrenaline. In these difficult moments, on the tough days, I have found that the more prep work I have already done to immerse myself in God's grace, the better able and equipped I am to draw from the well of God's grace and offer my children a drink.

When I am getting in the Word, practicing the discipline of reading the Bible, and entering into his courts through prayer, I am better able to offer my children the precious gift of God's goodness overflowing from the wellsprings of my heart. I am a more graceful, God-filled mother on days when I am able to connect with the heart of God.

There is much intrinsic value to be found in a woman who is daily connected to the cross of Christ. There is beauty to behold in a lost woman who is able to truly be found in coming humbly before God, entering into his holy presence, each day. We catch glimpses of Heaven when the people we know and love live from the source of His Great Love. What greater gift could I offer my family than Jesus alive in me?

Her children arise and call her blessed;

her husband also, and he praises her:

“Many women do noble things,

but you surpass them all.”

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;

but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Proverbs 31:28-30 (NIV)

On days when I find myself feeling snappy and rushed, I must pump the brakes and reflect on God's goodness by giving him thanks and becoming more in tune and alert to the Holy Spirit in my life through prayer. Being steeped in God's grace daily is so important to us as Christian mamas. When we accept the drink Jesus offers to us at the well, we are more likely to extend it to our children and to others who are desperate for the source of God's love, grace, and eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. Colossians 4:2 (NLT)

We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. 1 John 4:16 (NLT)
