“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
Obedience. It can seem like a weighty word with a lofty connotation. But when we take Christ’s yoke upon our lives, He makes our burdens light. In Christ we find rest for our souls (Matthew 11:28-30).
Oh how the worries of this world can wear us down! The day in and day out stitches of motherhood can prick us, leaving us bleeding and close to tears. But when life doesn’t go according to plan, we can still rest in the goodness of God.
What is it God is calling you to? Sometimes there is an upfront price to pay to walk in obedience—time, talent, commitment, energy. But ultimately, God’s plans are for us, for His glory (Romans 8:28). Even when we cannot see the immediate benefits of our obedience, with every “Yes Lord!” We yield to the goodness of God and live by faith.
In living by faith, we taste the dust of Jesus’ footsteps; in this way we are the salt of the Earth, the light of the world. Only in being willing to get a little dusty, through loving and serving others, can we walk more closely with God and become more like Jesus.
Obedience makes our hearts a little more holy, our lives a little more beautiful. But it is not always glamorous. Sometimes it can feel monotonous, like what we are doing doesn’t matter, like no one notices or cares, or that we are all alone in our struggles. But the truth is, our lives have great meaning as moms. What we are doing matters in light of eternity. All moms struggle. With every book read, dinner made, lunch packed, diaper changed, and load of laundry put away, we become a little more humble, our hearts a little more beautiful.
Say “yes Lord!” Walk in strength, dignity, and God’s grace today. You’ve got this because it is God you are yoked to—attached to His righteousness, set apart for His holy purposes, led by His love.
Lean into His embrace on days you feel weak. That’s where His power works best and how the conditions of our hearts are perfected (2 Corinthians 12:9).
