Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7
Sometimes being a mom of littles feels like walking on water. It draws me out of my comfort zone, and into the unknown. It makes me feel a little disoriented at times, fearful for the safety of my children, and my mind constantly spinning due to the wind and waves crashing, the constant busyness that engulfs my day-to-day. Sometimes getting out of bed feels like a brave feat because I know what is to come. I also know that my children need me and that no one else can do this job quite like me. God has certainly called me to step out of the boat. To be a brave mom. To be a bold mom. To be a faithful mom. When we mother from the source of God’s awesome power and not in our own strength, when we take the hand of Jesus and fixate our eyes on him instead of relying on ourselves and looking down at our feet, Jesus’ grace is able to meet us and conquer our shortcomings. His love for us and our children comes to light when we realize that God is in full control, even when things feel like they have spiraled out of control, down the rabbit hole.
Right now, I am potty training Josiah, and I have to keep reminding myself of this simple yet profound truth: everyone gets potty trained eventually. When I stop focusing so much on this slow-moving endeavor and instead fix my eyes on my Savior, I can trust Jesus and find peace in his solace, comfort in his presence, and assurance in his timing. God is in control of every little thing in our lives. And he cares! Let’s cast our cares at the feet of Jesus and come and sit at the foot of the cross.
Like Mary in the story of Mary and Martha, let us choose what is better (Luke 10:42). Before our to-do lists, before our struggles, before our setbacks, fears, and anxieties, let us choose Jesus. He is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the only way to eternal life and the way to experience abundant life here on earth.
Being a mom may challenge you. Being a mom might be a breeze for you, but you struggle in different ways. Either way, Jesus is with us, he is for us, he has already gone before us. Because of Jesus, we have hope. Because of Jesus, we can live by faith. Every day, step out of the boat and take your Savior’s hand.
Throughout the day fix your eyes on Jesus. When the wind and waves come your way, Jesus will give you the strength, endurance, diligence, patience, perseverance, and faith to remain standing through the storm. He is the one in charge of the storm, who has the ability to say, “Be still” and calm the sea in our hearts and everyday lives. He is the one who has called you out of the boat.
Be brave, be bold, be a faith-filled mom, because of Jesus. The Miracle Worker empowers you and gives you the divine ability to mother from a source of energy much greater than yourself. Draw from the well of God’s grace each day, and lavish the Living Water of Christ alive in you upon your children’s hearts, laced throughout their lives. Live a grace-laced life as a mother, wife, daughter of the King, and bride of Christ.
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for your love and grace. You lavish compassion and mercy upon me abundantly, and I am forever grateful. Help my life to reflect my gratitude and appreciation for your love and sacrifice. In Jesus’ sanctified name, amen.
