I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2
Some days don’t feel like rainbows and sunshine. Some days are hard, like really hard; not the kind of hard that jelly beans get in the cold, the kind of hard the frozen arctic tundra becomes in the wintertime. Wearing all of the hats that being a mom entails can be a daily battle. Some days I feel like turning in my Mama badge, but I know that the Lord is my strength and portion, the place where my help comes from.
God’s got us, even on days that feel overwhelming, overbearing, and overdone. When we feel burnt out, and cry out to Jesus, he can sustain our minds and be the strength our Mama hearts need. The truth is, being a mom is no cake walk and there are going to be days that we feel like we just can’t. On those days, in those moments of desperation, cry out to Jesus. Let him know you need him. Ask for his love, wisdom, comfort, and support to hold you up and enable you to withstand the high temperatures and pressure that motherhood entails.
The world shouts, “Be perfect!” “You are not doing it right unless your kids are eating gourmet, organic food at all times!” “You will never measure up!” But the Lord tells us something contrary to popular opinion. “My grace is sufficient for you…” (2 Corinthians 12:9). You don’t have to be the perfect mom. Just do your best, and keep putting one foot in front of the other. Rely on the Lord’s sunshine in your life on days that feel dark, drab, and lonely. Get into God’s Word. Go to him in prayer.
Dear Jesus,
Please be my strength. Sometimes I get overwhelmed. My heart gets flooded with fluctuating emotions as a mom. Please step in, and stop the rising tide. Remind me of your grace in moments of weakness. Be the light of my life on days that feel dark.
God I need your love and grace to cover me, to encompass my struggles, to encapsulate my worried mind, to envelope my heart. Jesus I need you. Come into my life. Be my daily strength. Let the peace of your presence calm my anxious heart and fill me to the brim. In Jesus’ sacred name, amen.
Steps of Faith:
Whisper this little prayer: “Lord, I need you now. Be my strength. Surround me on all sides. Today I trade in my worry, anxiety, and overwhelmed mind for your love, your peace, and your protection to establish their roots in me. Amen”
