For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 2 Corinthians 1:5

How can we have hope through a trial? We have the ultimate source of everlasting hope through Jesus Christ, but sometimes truly bad things happen in life that rock our boats.

When I experienced postpartum depression after having our second baby, things couldn’t have been darker. What got me through it was Jesus, my husband, and doctors and counselors. There are things in life that push us past the realm of our control where help is needed. This is nothing to be ashamed of. We need to seek Jesus through hard times, but sometimes other people are part of the remedy. God has equipped doctors and counselors with the wisdom and knowledge that is sometimes necessary to pull us out of the pit of depression, and other crises.

The cool thing about coming out of a trial is that we are better equipped to help others who struggle in similar ways. 1 Corinthians 1:3-4 boldly states, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

Trials equip us for Christ’s Kingdom purposes. Tribulations sculpt us into vessels that can be used for God’s glory. Christ’s love and special portion of grace, through the hard times, fills us with comfort that we can gift to others who experience a similar unwarranted situation.

Our pain is never in vain. Our scars have meaning and can bear witness to the redemptive, healing power of Jesus. Our pain has purpose when we surrender it over to Jesus who can make all things beautiful (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Your scars are beautiful, Mama! Use them to help and point others to Jesus.
