“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” John 7:38
Do rivers of living water overflow from your heart and spill into your life?
For me, the answer is yes and no. There are times when my emotions get the best of me and things like anger, rash words, and careless actions spew. But, I have found that when my faith is dependent on Jesus, when my eyes are fixed on his face, and the mirror of my heart is positioned to reflect his own, my thoughts become transformed into what is lovely, honorable, and true. When I focus-in on my Lord and Savior, his radiant reflection shines through me.
So how do we angle ourselves toward the light of Christ in our lives?
We must grow in our love for God’s Word. The more we practice the daily discipline of reading our Bibles, the more in love with Jesus we fall.
We must dedicate time in our lives spent in prayer. Praise God through prayer. Cultivate a heart of thanksgiving through prayer. Wrestle with your sin nature, and achieve victory, through Jesus, through prayer.
Follow the Holy Spirit’s promptings in your life. When God places something on your heart, listen and obey. Unleash the power of Christ’s Living Water, through steadfast obedience.
Jesus’ first and greatest commandment was to love the Lord God with all of our hearts, minds, and strength (Matthew 22:37-38). Allow Living Waters to course throughout your heart and cascade into your daily life, through Jesus. We need more of his presence to guard and guide us every step of the way.
Motherhood is an incredible journey that can mold and shape us into Christ’s likeness, but only when we seek Jesus to lead us toward his righteousness, through God’s Word, prayer, gratitude, and daily obedience.
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for being the giver of all good things. Thank you for your Word and prayer. I praise you for the Living Water of your Holy Spirit, and pray that it would overflow in my life. In Jesus’ holy name, amen.
Steps of Faith:
Read Psalm 138 today.
Wise words, Alex. I'm glad you mentioned gratitude. When we look for what's GOOD in our lives and turn it into grateful worship, we're less likely to get bogged down in negativity, self-pity, resentment, etc. Instead we begin to experience contentment and joy! Nancy R.
I’d love to say that my emotions don’t get the best of me but I certainly have my days. This post is packed with truth for living a daily walk with Jesus. Praying we can all as you beautifully said, “Unleash the power of Christ’s Living Water, through steadfast obedience.” Traci Shnider
I am praising Him for living water too. Thank you for this beautiful reminder. And in case you feel alone in the struggle, I have days when my emotions can get the best of me, too. I'm glad God isn't through working on me.
