“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16
Sometimes I like to hide. I pretend the song, “This Little Light of Mine,” Matthew 5:14-16, does not apply to me. It feels safer to hide, to dim my light, to be by myself alone in the dark.
But God’s grace finds me again and again. Time after time, His redeeming love sheds light onto my weaknesses, the places of my heart and life I would rather be left undiscovered.
And rather than condemn, his grace covers my weaknesses. His power overrides my failures. His sufficient strength overcomes my fears.
Faith flourishes in the light. The amazing, incredible, mysterious thing about grace is that we don’t have to search for the light or fight our way past the horizon. The sunrise of God’s love, forgiveness, freedom, and redemption will always find us. We simply need to seek the light. To stop hiding away the gifts that God has given. To refuse to believe the lie that we are not good enough.
Because we are heirs of Christ, we are chosen, redeemed, and fully loved. We are precious, royal, and enough because of the holy blood of Jesus that washes over our lives and time after time brings us out of darkness and into His marvelous light.
We were created to shine, to share God’s love, to be witnesses of all that Jesus Christ has done. Release your inhibition. Give God your fears. Step out of darkness, into the light Jesus has already provided for you. Shine.
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for your grace and your heart for me.
Please shine your light into my life that I might exude your glory. Help me to live a bright life in this dark world. Show me specific ways to shine. In Jesus’ hope filled name, amen.
Steps of Faith:
According to Matthew 5:16, we are to let our light shine before others. Reach out to another mother today. Invite her over for a cup of coffee and conversation, or go for a walk. We were made to live in connection with other people. Don’t mom alone!
